AN APPOINTMENT WITH DESTINY

AN APPOINTMENT WITH DESTINY

SOUL-LIFT DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH
DR D.M. TIKILI.

DATE: SATURDAY 10 OCTOBER , 2020.

TOPIC: AN APPOINTMENT WITH DESTINY

DEVOTIONAL READING: John 4:4-30.

KEY VERSE: The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. John 4:25,26.

BIBLE CHARACTER IN VIEW: THE WOMAN AT THE WELL.

In Palestine, the sun’s heat had it’s effect upon both this nameless Samaritan woman and upon the savior of the world.
Tied from His travel, He stops to rest at Jacob’s well. She, too, is on her way to that well, keeping (unknown to her) an appointment with destiny. For she is the reason “ he had to go through Samaria.”

She too is weary. Not because of the water jar she carries on her head but because of the emptiness she carries in her heart. The emptiness that was created and leftover from her past wild lifestyle. Accusing thoughts are her only companions as she ponders about the fruitless life she has traveled. She is at a dead end right now, living with a man in a relationship that leads nowhere. She knows that.

And so, under the weight of such thoughts she comes to Jacob’s well, her empty water, a depicting or a symbol of her life.
As her eyes meet the savior’s, he sees within her the pain and void in her soul that will forever remain void unless He fills it.
Jesus engages her in a profound discourse of scripture on the subject of worship… that God is a Spirit and that worship is not an approach of the body to a church, but an approach of the soul to the spirit of God. This was a cutting revelation to her. But equally remarkable is what Jesus didn’t say. Yes, He States her past and present marital status but makes no reference to her sin. He gives no call to to repent. He presents no structured plan of salvation. He offers no prayer.

But He takes her away from the city and brings her to a quiet well. There He shows her a reflection of herself.
Understandably, she is surprised. To her this stranger was first simply “a Jew” and then the revelation graduated to a “Messiah.” She leaves to tell the good news to the city that has not shared and shunned her. She has received a new life…the living water.

This is what happens when you have an encounter with Destiny by accepting Jesus Christ into your life. And you taking the message of your encounter to others by way of evangelism and soul winning.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: An Encounter With Jesus Christ Is An Encounter With Destiny.
